Through spatial and material practices, experimental cinematography, montage, digital editing, and performance, Wang investigates themes of nostalgia and collective memory across cultures and national boundaries, focusing on how specific eras are perceived by its inhabitants and how these projections shape cultural identity, social dynamics, and the psychological characters of both individuals and communities across time. Wang is equally invested in the ways artworks are presented and activated in space, and his curatorial practice reflects his interest in creating contexts that deepen audience engagement and dialogue.
Wang’s education and life trajectory have shaped his transnational perspective. He spent his early years in coastal China near Shanghai, moved to Chicago in his teens, and later studied Visual Communication and Film Production at the School of Visual Arts in New York (BFA, 2020). After working in Shanghai in design, advertising, and photography, he moved to Tokyo, where he earned his MFA in Global Art Practice at Tokyo University of the Arts (2025). Alongside his studies, he developed an independent artistic and curatorial practice, participating in exhibitions and collaborative projects across Japan, Europe, Asia, and the US. He is currently based in Los Angeles, where he continues to work as an artist, photographer, curator, and designer.
